*PITC ART GALLERY*

We've brightened up our walls with some beautiful mosaic art - My Art!  I made these pieces at a local studio, and not only do they look great in the club, I've sold 2 mirrors and taken orders for several pet portraits!

These one of kind mosaics are sure to brighten up your home, and you can commission a mirror, pet portrait, or request nearly anything - if you've got a photo of it, i can make it mosaic reality!

(mosaic flyer info at bottom of Blog)

Pittsburgh Winter Tennis Doubles League - The league continues to perform at a high level, and a few new players have joined the effort to fill in for those who have departed; still a few open spots on Sunday morning, and Friday morning.   Play hard and have fun!

Friday morning's PWT group going for it :)

PITC USTA TEAMS:

PITC had three teams vying for greatness in USTA mixed doubles play:

9.0 Team   -   WINNERS!!  Congratulations to the 9.0 team for their amazing efforts to end the season            with a 9-3 record, which makes them Section Champs - nice job everyone!

8.0 Team   -   A superb effort by these doubles warriors in winning their first playoff match vs. Lakevue to get to the semi's, where they lost in a close one to Mt. Lebanon.  Congrats on a terrific 8-2 season, good work!

7.0 Team   -   A balanced season kept the efforts of these hard working players above .500, with a 7-6 record and one match left to play - let's get the win and finish on a high note - go team!!

Thanks to our Captains and organizers for a great season!  Please see Lynn for news on any upcoming USTA teams and leagues.

PITC Men's Singles Ladder - The new year is seeing more matches played, and currently sitting atop the standings with 3 wins & just 1 loss is Giovanni Leoni - BRAVO, GIOVANNI!
Ok fellas, who's going to de-throne him, if anyone?  Let's get those challenge matches issued!  See the current standings here:

Giovanni, prepping to play at HP courts
                                                       before the temps went sub-zero!

*Australian Open Update

Tonight's matchup of Federer vs. Murray should be a 5-set, closely contested match to see who gets the honor of playing what appears to be an unbeatable Djokovic (going for his 3rd Aussie Open in a row!)
Will either of them be able to take out the Djoker with his unbelievable returns and gumby-like defense?

And the women's final pits #1 seed Azarenka vs. the hope of over a billion tennis fans, Li Na.  She has recently paired up with Justin Henin's former coach Carlos Rodriguez, and the new tougher training regimen has given her loads of confidence, evident in her complete dominance of Sharapova, 2 & 2!

Of course I must give a hearty congrats to USA's Sloane Stephens - the 19 yr old phenom upset Serena Williams in only her 2nd main draw of a major tournament.  Way to play Sloane, keep up the great work!

“The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which; he simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

PITC Blog is happening!

Hello Pittsburgh (and beyond?) Tennis Fans!

Welcome to the PITC Blog - it's about time, right?  What you'll find here is updates on happenings and events at the Pittsburgh Indoor Tennis Club (www.pittsburghindoortennis.com), as well as my own 'tennis junkie' contemplations, deliberations & cogitations - because hey, tennis is my preoccupation.

Dave Weinstein, one of 2 Dave's working at PITC
For those new to the Pittsburgh Tennis scene - a quick view of what we do:  PITC is an indoor tennis facility with 4 doubles courts and one singles court (no alleys).  There are NO membership fees, you just call to book a court or show up for one of our many clinics or events.  There are mens & womens locker rooms with showers, and a secure parking lot on site.  We are located just off Penn Circle South on Stevenson Place in the East Liberty/Shadyside area.  After tennis there are plenty of great places to grab some grub after your exercise (BRGR, Plum, Dinette, Mad Mex, Casbah, Kelly's Bar, Paris 66) ...

PITC indoor facility
PITC kicked off the 2012 winter season with an excellent turnout for this years Winter Tennis League! There are 20+ groups playing doubles at all levels 7 days a week. PITC/Leagues&Teams.
In addition, our home page lists 10 clinics a week (all levels) - most are taught by our Head Pro Dave Bender, as well as some added weekend clinics taught by Dr. Bucky Philips.  (CLINIC SCHEDULE)  How about joining a USTA team now for mixed doubles (join USTA? membership.usta.com/) - and Stay tuned for other upcoming USTA team events in January and next spring.

Head Pro David Bender
We often host tennis Socials on Friday or Saturday nights, which can include Round Robin Singles or King of the Court Doubles Challenges (sometimes we get Pizza from local hotspot Pizza Sola, yum!)  Not enough?  Private lessons are available from David Bender, as well as specialized group instruction.  Or get your tennis fix with a 'Hit Lesson' from Lynn Giroux or Me, Dave Weinstein.   Check our website for info on lessons and upcoming events* pittsburghindoortennis.com/NEWS&EVENTS :)

How about instruction for KIDS? Rashid Hassan provides challenging after school clinics several weekdays, and on the weekends Dave Bender schedules 5 Junior programs for kids ages 5 - 13.
High school players will definitely enjoy David's focused high school clinic on Sunday from 4-6 pm.
Juniors can also take advantage of  hitting Saturdays with Tom Mercer, he always pushes them hard during his 3-hour program.  Lessons can also be arranged with Craig Perry or Aldene LaCaria.

Tennis Instructor - Tom Mercer

We also have discounted court time available on weekdays, and space for your intramural teams, corporate events, kids parties, birthday celebrations, you name it - just give us a call 412.450.1080!

Meantime, our TV is always on the Tennis Channel - have you been watching the Paris Masters tournament?  Can you believe it's the 1st time since 2008 that none of the top 4 men (Djokovic, Federer, Murray, Nadal) are in the quarterfinals??  But Polish #1 Jerzy Janowicz (#69) has made a name for himself this week, beating such top players as Kohlschreiber (#19), Cilic (#15), Murray (#3), Tipsarevic (#(9) and Simon (#18) to reach the final against the only top seed left, David Ferrer (#5) - Go JERZY!  Check out the Mens Tour info for all the updates here: atpworldtour.com/Finals and prepare to be dazzled at next week's season ending ATP World Tour finals in London, where the top 8 (- Nadal, + Tipsarevic) battle it out!

Jerzy Janowicz celebrates Victory over #3 Andy Murray
Before I wrap up our 1st Blog entry, I have to mention that NONE of this would be possible without the tireless work by our Owner/Manager Lynn Giroux - this is her 8th year of providing fantastic winter tennis action for ALL of Pittsburgh's Tennis Junkies - THANK YOU, LYNN!

You can also stay in tune with PITC through our FaceBook page: facebook.com/PittsburghIndoorTennis-Club  .

We have not yet begun to Tweet, but it will be coming soon!

If this blog has you junked up for tennis and ready to take it out with some hard hitting, don't forget to Check our website for info on upcoming events OR give us a call 412.450-1080 - as I like to say, the Club is an excellent place to "Crush Some Balls"!
